Fun Cold Weather Activities in Grand Rapids

Shop at the Downtown Market 

Since the farmers markets are closed for the season the downtown market is an option for you. There are great cheeses, wines spices and sweet treats. You can also purchase fresh meat and fish along with produce.

Wander around a Museum

There are many options for cultural activities in Grand Rapids. The Grand Rapids Public Museum has many historical exhibits and check out our skies at the Roger B Chaffee Planetarium. The Grand Rapids Art Museum or Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts are also good choices for browsing. The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum is also a great way to spend a couple hours with your children as you check out the different kid friendly exhibits. West Michigan District Dental Society will hold “Tooth Time” on Thursday, February 4, 2016 and Friday, February 5, 2016 which has dental related fun facts and activities for children.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Even though the weather may be cold and snowy, don’t let that stop you from enjoying all the things you can be doing in Grand Rapids. Go fishing for steelhead in the Grand River, go ice-skating at Rosa Parks Circle, grab a sled, skis or snow shoes and head to one of the area parks. The activities are endless!

Bring a Little Sunshine into your Winter

Check out some of the family friendly water parks in the area when the weather is bringing you down. You may be able to purchase day passes for some or plan an overnight “Staycation” at hotels in the area. Castaway Bay at the Ramada Plaza and The Big Dip at the Holiday inn Express Grand Rapids South both have water parks with water slides, hot tubs and other fun activities for children. Sit back and enjoy the pool temperatures of approximately 80 degrees.


Food and Fun

Grand Rapids has many restaurants, bars and breweries that you can explore during the cold winter months when the call of the lakes in the area are not being heard. Take the time to check out all the places people are talking about!
